- Arts Multimedia Centre wins a $9,000 Apple University Development Fund (AUDF) grant to develop iLecture Editor.
- Arts Multimedia Centre allocated ~$40,000 to expand iLecture infrastructure into 8 more lecture theatres.
- Over 5,000 UWA students have access to iLectures for one or more of the units they study. More than 3,000 lectures were recorded and there were over 100,000 lectures hits.

- Growing interest from other universities in gaining access to iLecture technologies – Arts Multimedia Centre hosts study tours for visitors from other universities, including University of Melbourne.

- Earlier system replaced by a fully automated recording system that directly records the audio/video of lectures - developed by Arts Multimedia Centre. Technology was named the “iLecture System”.
- Arts Multimedia Centre presents on iLecture at Apple University Consortium Conference in Wollongong (April 2000) - generates significant interest from other universities.
- Decision to commercialise iLecture System technology.

Events
- The Arts Multimedia Centre undertook a trial in 3 Arts units using RealAudio technology to deliver streaming versions of lecture recordings to students
- The first version of what became the iLecture System was developed by the Arts Multimedia Centre to replace the small lecture tape library service. This system supported the automated capture and processing of lectures from audio tape lectures.
Major R & D
- Devised fundamental system architecture and approach (proves to be a unique key to iLecture success and remains the same today)
- Developed Digitiser application for un-attended media capture – using SuperCard, AppleScript and Coaster
- Developed automated processing and publishing application – using AppleScript and RealEncoder
- First Server component developed to exist within The Forum - a Learning Management System developed by The Arts Multimedia Centre – using FileMaker Pro, Lasso and WebStar.
